ILS (Immediate Life Support) RQF

Prometheus is a Qualsafe Awards’ accredited provider of the Level 4 Award in Immediate Life Support RQF.

What is Immediate Life Support (ILS) RQF?

The Immediate Life Support (ILS) Qualsafe qualification is suitable for people who will respond to out-of-hospital emergencies or life-threatening incidents. The objective of the qualification is to benefit learners by developing their knowledge and skills associated with providing Immediate Life Support to patients in cardiorespiratory arrest or experiencing life-threatening illness and injury.

Learners who have successfully completed the QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF)) or a similar qualification, are required to complete the Immediate Life Support course annually, as well as a CPD portfolio, to keep their FREC 4/FREC 5 valid.

Professional Pathways

Immediate Life Support is required to be taken annually by all clinicians who hold a FREC 4 or the higher qualification FREC 5 as part of their ongoing continuous professional development (CPD).

It will develop learners’ knowledge of the three stages of immediate life support:

  • Recognise and treat the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach.
  • Identify the causes and promote the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Undertake the skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (manual and /or AED) and simple airway manoeuvres.

Immediate Life Support Skills Framework

This qualification forms part of the Qualsafe Prehospital Care suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

  • Resuscitation Council (UK)
  • UK Ambulance Service Clinical Practice Guidelines

Successful learners will receive a personalised Qualsafe Level 4 Award in Immediate Life Support (RQF) e-Certificate.

Immediate Life Support Requalification

Annual requalification of Immediate Life Support is required to validate the Qualsafe Awards FREC 4 and FREC 5.
