Prometheus Senior Instructor Receives West Midlands Ambulance Service Chief Officer Commendation – Friday 20 March 2014

Kate Owen (one of Prometheus’ Senior Instructors) and her colleague Mark Bellerby, have both received a West Midlands Ambulance Service Chief Officer Commendation for their efforts during a railway incident on 1st August 2013, when a man fell under a train near Hereford railway station, sustaining serious multiple injuries. Kate and Mark began treatment while the patient was still partially underneath the train  and using their skills and training they stabilised him before moving him to safety. The patient was then airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but, unfortunately, he later died from his injuries.

Kate and Mark were awarded Chief Officer Commendations for treating a seriously injured patient in a confined space during extreme temperatures in a dangerous environment.  Prometheus would like to congratulate Kate and Mark for receiving their commendation and take the opportunity to thank all emergency service personnel for their hard work on a daily basis, often under difficult circumstances.
