Dr Lyon and the Edinburgh 3RU Team Win BMJ Emergency Medicine Team of the Year Award 2014

Prometheus Medical wishes to congratulate Dr Richard Lyon, Prometheus MENA Medical Director, and the Edinburgh 3RU team on winning the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Emergency Medicine Team of the Year Award 2014.  The BMJ Awards are amongst the highest medical accolades in the UK and the team triumphed over strong competition.

The Edinburgh Resuscitation Rapid Response Unit (3RU), evolved from Dr Lyon’s original TOPCAT and TOPCAT2 studies on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The 3RU team, through a systematic approach to prehospital resuscitation, has resulted in Edinburgh having one of the highest survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK.

Prof Jonathan Benger, one of the category judges, said: ‘The scheme is clearly having a significant impact on survival in Edinburgh and is set to save even more lives.’

We are delighted that many of the lessons learned are regularly taught on the Prometheus Specialist Prehospital Emergency Resuscitation (SPHERe) course, in order to share experience and further improve outcome from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
