100-mile Ultra-Marathon in the Moroccan Sahara Desert
Prometheus is delighted to be sponsoring a group who are aiming to complete a 100-mile trek through the Sahara Desert in just 3 days to raise funds for charity. The event will commence on Thursday 29th October and finish on the evening of Saturday 31st October.
The team of 7 will complete 30 miles on the first day, 50 miles on the second day and the final 20 miles on the third day.
Prometheus is supporting the event through the supply of medical equipment and remote medical support, and Jez Harwood (a medical instructor on our faculty), will provide medical support on the ground throughout. Jez is a HEMS Critical Care Paramedic for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance and was previously a Critical Care Paramedic for South East Coast Ambulance Service. He will fly out with the rest of the team on 27th October.
The event will raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre; a specialist cancer treatment centre located on the outskirts of Cardiff. They provide services to over 1.5 million people across South East Wales and beyond. Each year they treat over 5,000 new referrals and around 50,000 new outpatients. Velindre Cancer Centre is a division of Velindre NHS Trust http://www.velindre-tr.wales.nhs.uk.
Simon Ford, Team Co-ordinator, has previously raised over £35,000 for Velindre Cancer Care Centre through other challenges - if you would like to contribute towards this latest challenge, please visit his Just Giving page: http://bit.ly/1LR2xlo.
We wish the team every success and look forward to hearing their stories on their safe return.
