VIPER Course - Level 3 FREC Instructors

Ms Kate Owen
Senior Instructor

Kate is a Senior Instructor for Prometheus Medical and has 17 years of experience responding to pre-hospital medical emergencies. She has been involved in instructing and mentoring clinical and non-clinical staff for several years. Currently Kate is a HEMS/Critical Care Paramedic for Wales Air Ambulance - Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service, providing advanced clinical treatment regimes to patients in traumatic situations. She also assists in the transfer of critically ill or injured patients from remote areas or smaller hospitals within Wales. Kate has recently completed the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. In 2012, Kate was appointed as a medic for the Mongol Derby medical team in Mongolia, looking after horse riders and members of crew in the remote environment. Kate enjoys outdoor adventures, jogging and learning new practical skills both in and out of work.

Mr Jez Loseby
Senior Instructor

Jez is a Senior Instructor for Prometheus Medical and has 19 years of experience responding to pre-hospital medical emergencies. Jez qualified as a Paramedic in 1996 and worked on both Accident and Emergency ambulances and fast response units as a solo responder within London. Since 2009 he has been a Critical Care Paramedic for South East Coast Ambulance and more recently he has become a HEMS Paramedic for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. Jez was also the course facilitator and lead for the Medical Induction Course for Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance.  His duties included writing the course programme, assembly of faculty, and delivery of the week long course to new Paramedics and Doctors. Jez enjoys kitesurfing, snowboarding, climbing and hill walking outside of work. He is also accredited for 1st Dan Black Belt and coaching in British Judo. 

Mr Tom Davies

Tom is an experienced Paramedic, who has worked for West Midlands Ambulance Service and Midland Air Ambulance for the last 9 years providing critical interventions and transport decisions, working within a developed trauma network. In  2013 Tom qualified as a Critical Care Paramedic, responsible for the safe working environment around the helicopter and advanced care of acutely ill and injured patients. Tom has also qualified with a Post Graduate Certificate  in Pre-Hospital Critical Care.  He has a Diploma in Immediate Care, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is currently studying a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice. He is a keen sportsman and played professional rugby for London Scottish in the premiership in 1999. Tom also has a BSc in Sports Science and worked as a diving instructor in Australia and the Caribbean for 4 years.  He acted as Safety Diver for Tanya Streeter on her 153m world record dive in 2003, where he gained his experience of working in remote locations.  

Mr Dave Swann
Commercial Training & Development Manager
Dave is a highly experienced Operational and Training Development Manager. A UK Health Care Professional Council registered Paramedic, a member of the College of Paramedics and a level five member of the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Dave spent over 23 years in the Royal Army Medical Corps, leaving in 2014 a Regimental Sergeant Major, during which time he deployed on numerous operations and overseas training exercises spanning the globe. During his military career Dave was posted to Hereford for 11 years as role one medical support, deploying on numerous operations. Dave is the only individual to have held the three prestigious positions of the Medical Warrant Officer (Medical Support Unit), Chief Medical Instructor (Hereford) and the Trauma Research Paramedic, Academic Department of Military Emergency Medicine (ADMEM). The last of which resulted in being jointly awarded a Commander Joint Forces Commendation for Distinguished Service while serving in support of Operations. An accomplished instructor with many years of experience in training the vast array of different disciplines found with the medical profession and beyond. Mr Swann leads our training team and instructor faculty.
