Emergencies in General Practice (GP) Course

Course Overview

Prometheus designed this course in response to GPs' concerns about managing life-threatening emergencies in the surgery, on a home visit or, by chance, at road traffic collisions - potentially feeling 'out of depth', yet wanting to be able to provide effective initial help.

The General Medical Council says of doctors, "You must offer help if emergencies arise in clinical settings or in the community, taking account of your own safety, your competence and the availability of other options for care"[1]

The Emergencies in General Practice course is designed for healthcare providers in primary care who may have to deal with an unexpected medical or trauma emergency in the initial period until the arrival of an ambulance. It is particularly suited to those who do not routinely have to deal with emergencies.
