Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMS) - The Instructors
Dr Malcolm Russell
Dr Malcolm Russell's first experience of a major incident was as part of a mountain search team in the Lockerbie Pan Am bombing in 1988 (whilst a medical student). He was then involved in a major incident in Scotland as a junior doctor, and then various multiple casualty incidents within the military, sometimes in the role of Medical Incident Officer / Commander. Dr Russell coordinated the first MIMMS course to run in Cyprus and has been actively involved with teaching MIMMS courses in the UK and overseas ever since. He helped author the Military MIMMS course and deliver it to its first NATO audience. Dr Russell lectured at the London Trauma Conference 2008 on the subject of triage and its field practicalities. Dr Russell is an examiner for the RCS Diploma in Immediate Medical Care and he is the Royal College of General Practitioners' representative on the Curriculum Training and Assessment Sub-committee of the Intercollegiate Board for Training in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine.
Dr Jonathan Leach
Dr Jonathan Leach is an experienced pre-hospital doctor who has been involved in major incidents in both the civilian and military sectors, for example he assisted at the Herald of Free Enterprise Disaster in Zeebrugge in 1987. He works on a regular basis for West Midlands Ambulance NHS Trust and for the local BASICS scheme (Mercia Accident Rescue Service) and is fully aware of the requirement for health workers to be both up to date on the management of major incidents and have a shared understanding and framework. Jonathan has extensive postgraduate medical expertise and has been a MIMMS instructor and course director for nearly 10 years. He has directed MIMMS courses both in the UK and overseas often when English is not the primary language of candidates.
In addition, the MIMMS faculty includes a wide number of highly experienced medical instructors, all current and highly respected in their field.
