Prometheus People

The people behind Prometheus make up some of the country’s most respected and practised medics in the field of major incident and crisis medicine. Who better to have on your side when planning for or dealing with a medical emergency?
This Primary Medical Support Team has many years expertise of developing and delivering pre-hospital and clinical care in military and civilian situations, in both the UK and overseas.

Dr Malcolm Russell

Managing Director

Actively practicing pre-hospital immediate care for over ten years, Dr Russell has served most of his career as a doctor in the British Army working extensively with some of the UK’s most elite military units. He was central in the development of concepts of combat casualty care.  He held the prestigious post of Senior Lecturer in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine at the UK Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.

As a civilian Dr Russell has worked with several ambulance services including the London Helicopter Emergency Medical Service and been involved in training paramedics and emergency care practitioners.  An experienced GP, Malcolm has also worked in emergency medicine and anaesthetics in a hospital environment.  He has been actively involved in pre-hospital emergency medicine (part of the charity, the Mercia Accident Rescue Service). He has planned and managed medical support to various expeditions including the Army Everest West Ridge expedition, 2006.

Dr Alastair Nicol

Director

Dr Alastair Nicol is an experienced sports physician and pre-hospital care practitioner, with particular expertise in planning and co-ordination of medical support operations, including Humanitarian Assistance operations. He has worked with a wide variety of specialist medical units within the Army and has many years of experience in planning and delivering both emergency and primary health care to some of the UK's most elite soldiers in remote areas around the globe. Dr Nicol is a highly regarded instructor, designing, directing and teaching on a variety of trauma and sports medicine courses in the UK and abroad. His extensive expertise in sports medicine makes him ideal to work with civilian expeditions, outdoor sports and adventure travellers. Dr Nicol has recently been appointed as Head of Medical Services and Doctor for the Scotland team for the Youth Commonwealth Games in India in 2008. He also retains his current commitments as Doctor for the Scotland 'A' rugby team and National Governing Body Doctor for the British Bobsleigh team.

Dr Charles Deakin

Director

Charles is a highly experienced cardiothoracic anaesthetist and pre-hospital care practitioner. He has also worked with London Helicopter Emergency Medical Services and is chairman of his local pre-hospital care scheme. He is well known in the field of resuscitation, holding the prestigious position of co-chairing the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation's Advanced Life Support Group. He currently advises the Royal National Lifeboat Institute and sits on its Medical and Survival Committee. Dr Deakin is also an internationally respected academic and author of many publications.

Dr David Houston
