Remote Road Traffic Collision Management and Casualty Extrication - The Instructors
Dr Malcolm Russell - Course Director
Dr Malcolm Russell has over twelve years' experience in the management of Road Traffic Collisions and extrication of casualties. He created the Defence Medical Services RTC Medical Management course and developed it over many years. He subsequently developed a specialist course for extrication of casualties in remote areas using minimal equipment. He has published on this subject and lectured nationally and internationally in this area. He continues to work closely with London HEMS, the fire service and various air ambulances in this field and is always looking to develop innovative techniques based on a wealth of clinical experience. Dr Russell is an active member of the charity, the Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS), providing voluntary assistance to emergencies in the Hereford and Worcester areas as part of BASICS and attends numerous RTCs during the course of his duties. Dr Russell is also an examiner for the RCS Diploma in Immediate Medical Care.
Mr Andrew Purdie
Andy is an experienced paramedic and is an integral part of the permanent Prometheus teaching faculty. He regularly teaches the RTC Management and Casualty Extrication course and frequently attends with David and Malcolm when responding to RTC incidents as part of their MARS duties.
Mr Shaun Moody
Shaun Moody has been a member of the UK Fire & Rescue Service for the last 16 years and a RTC Instructor for the last 10 years. Shaun has instructed on RTC Techniques in many parts of the world, and has been the Team Leader of an Extrication Team who have been twice World Champions in the RTC field. Additionally, he is a member of the UK International Search & Rescue team, mobilising to incidents such as the 2009 Sumatra earthquake.
Mr Mark Sanderson
Mark Sanderson is currently a serving member of the UK Fire and Rescue Service (FRS). He has served for 18 years, qualifying as a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) Instructor in 1998 and has provided RTC training within the UK and overseas to both FRS and other emergency services. Mark, together with fellow RTC instructor Shaun Moody is an active member of a Fire & Rescue Service RTC Extrication team that have had success at both National and World Challenges. Mark is currently working as an Urban Search and Rescue Instructor (USARI) and is also a member of the UK International Search and Rescue Team (UK-ISAR).
