Sat 30th July – Arrival in Ulaanbaatar (UB). After having had to pay over £2800 in excess baggage at Heathrow and then being stopped briefly at UB airport for carrying controlled drugs (thanks to Shatra from the Adventurists for saving the day there...) we finally made it through. Catherine and I
had travelled together from Heathrow and met Pete in UB. The half hour drive from the airport took us through some gorgeous hills and mountains – felt like a sneak preview of the scenery we’ll get to see over the next couple of weeks. Our much-needed afternoon naps in the hotel were only disrupted by a loud and very heavy thunderstorm. Dinner at an Irish pub and plenty of the local beer “Chinggis” followed, with a chance to meet the rest of the crew including several people who worked at last years’ event. They seem like a friendly bunch so looking forward to getting to know them.
